A storage bed hides drawers or a lift-top platform underneath the sleeping surface -- adding bedroom storage without requiring additional furniture. Drawer storage beds typically have 2 to 6 drawers built into the base on one or both sides; lift-top storage beds use a gas-lift mechanism to raise the mattress platform and access a large open compartment underneath. Both are especially useful in smaller bedrooms where a separate dresser or chest would crowd the space. The trade-off: storage beds typically need more clearance on the sides for drawers, and lift-top models require removing all bedding before accessing the storage. We carry storage beds in drawer-style (side drawers, typically 2 to 6 depending on size) and hydraulic lift configurations (the entire top platform lifts to reveal full-length under-bed storage). Available in twin through king in fabric and wood finishes.

Drawer Style vs Hydraulic Lift

  • Side drawers: Easier to access without moving anything -- just slide the drawer open. The trade-off is that the drawers typically only reach 12 to 18 inches under the bed, leaving some center storage inaccessible. Access requires clearance on the drawer side (usually 24 inches minimum)
  • Hydraulic lift: The entire sleeping surface raises on gas struts, exposing the full footprint of the bed as storage. More total storage space but requires you to remove bedding and have overhead clearance. Better for items accessed infrequently (seasonal linens, extra pillows)
  • Weight limit: Storage bed drawers are not rated for as much weight as a freestanding dresser. They handle lighter loads (clothing, linens) better than heavy loads (books, off-season shoes)
