What size headboard do I need for a queen bed?

A queen mattress is 60 inches wide. A queen headboard is typically 62 to 66 inches wide to slightly overhang the mattress on each side. Full-size headboards are 54 inches wide. King headboards are 76 to 80 inches wide to match a standard king mattress (76 inches). Always check whether the headboard is sized for Eastern King (76 inches) or California King (72 inches), as these require different widths.

How tall should a headboard be?

A headboard should be tall enough to be visible above the mattress and pillows when the bed is made.
