A trundle bed stores a second mattress on a wheeled platform underneath the main frame, pulled out when needed and pushed back during the day. Most trundle mattresses must be 8 inches thick or less to fit the compartment -- standard 10 to 12 inch mattresses will not slide back under. If adults will use the trundle, a pop-up version that raises to near-standard sleeping height is significantly more comfortable than the standard low floor position.
