Accent Rugs
An accent rug is a smaller-format rug used to define a seating area, add warmth to a specific spot in a room, or bring a pattern into a space that is otherwise neutral. Common sizes: 2x3 and 3x5 for entryways, fireplace fronts, and kitchen spaces; 4x6 for smaller seating nooks; 5x8 as a small living room rug. Unlike a full area rug, an accent rug is not expected to anchor the entire furniture arrangement -- it plays a supporting role in a space. Low-pile rugs are more practical in high-traffic spots; higher-pile or shag rugs add softness in reading areas and bedroom spaces.
