A complete dining room set is the fastest way to get a finished, coordinated look. Sets typically include a table and four to six matching chairs -- and most offer the option to add a buffet, china cabinet, or bench to complete the room. Buying a matched set means the leg finishes, stain colors, and scale are already calibrated to work together.

The size that works depends on your room. A 36 by 48-inch table works in a smaller space and seats four; a 42 by 84-inch table gives you room for six to eight and needs at least a 12 by 12-foot dining area to feel comfortable with chairs pulled out.
